Young without a cause

For the project Spazio Lavoro of the Foundation Feltrinelli, I have develop an analysis of what it means to be young in the contemporary Italian labour market. The chapter entitled “Giovent霉 bruciata? La condizione giovanile e la sfida del social investment” offers a review of the main indicators from Eurostat and OECD to understand the condition of Italian youth in comparative perspective.

Results are not reassuring. Italy shows one of the lowest level of young with tertiary education among Europe, but at the same time the higher unemployment rate among them. Young graduates are often overqualified and although their employment level is higher compared to lower skilled workers, the advantage in terms of salary is one of the lowest among Europe.
